Ok for the past couple of weeks, I've had to catch Smallville online, because the CW channel in my area went poof.  FOX was reassigned to another channel.  But I've been able to watch my FOX shows.  But what makes it even worse is my husband likes to watch Supernatural and he gets mad when he can't watch it.  Like it's my fault that CW went poof unless you have cable or satalite.  That's not my fault.  What can  I do about it.   Do what I do and catch online.  But no, no, he'd rather gripe at the whole family and stay in a bad mood because he can't watch his show.  But he rejoyces when I can't watch Smallville!  ::rolleyes::

Anyone else missing CW on regular broadcast or is it just my area?

Ok, I admit it, I've mostly been only watching the Olympics for the figure skating.  It's the only time that I watch figure skating anyway.  Once every four years.  I really enjoyed the programs that NBC has shown.  Wish they would show all of them, but I understand that they have other sports that they have to cover as well.  Hubby is a little upset that I'm all of the sudden hogging the TV during Prime Time.  LOL  Oh well, he'll get over it!

While waiting for some figure skating to come on, I saw some of the snow boarding and WOW!!!!  And now my 11- year old wants to do that stuff on roller blades!  Oh boy!  I sure hope that the health insurance we have will cover any injuries while he's learning if he goes through with it.  He just learned to stay up right on the roller blades two days ago!  LOL

I've also gotten to see some of the skiing.  And can I say that USA is doing great!!  We might not be winning gold in all of the sports, but I think that the athletes are doing their best and for that, I can be proud of them weather or not they make the podium.  And it seems that they are in high spirits when they mess up.  I've seen some of the snow boarders smiling after they fall.  If was me who worked my whole life to make the Olympics only to fall on my butt in the middle of qualifiers or finals, I'd cry.  So my respect for them has gone up 100 fold!!!  And already have respect for someone who trains their whole life for something.  I have ADHD and my attention span just isn't so that I could do that.  LOL  

Ok now, I'm going to rant a little bit about one of our athletes.  Shawni Davis.  He did not salute the flag when he recieved his gold metal.  I don't understand this.  I've looked around online to see if he has said why he didn't salute it.  I can compleately understand if he forgot because he was so caught up in the moment.  I may not like it, but I can understand.  I can understand if it was because he religion forbids it.  (I do know that there are some out there that do forbid say the pledge and saluting our flag.)  I may not like it, but it's a lot more understandable than just forgetting to because of the adrenaline or whatever  even if he has every right be excited at his accomplishment.  But to not do it just because?  And he hasn't said why he hasn't done it.  I don't think the media has pointed it out!!!!!  This is what happens when you elect a president that doesn't salute the flag!!  I have read comments from posters saying that it's a new thing to salute the flag during the National Anthem.  That they just started doing it after the 60's.  There was this one poster that said that they went to school in the 60's and they were taught to just say the Pledge of Allegiance with their arms at their side!  Ok now this confuses me because my parents went to school in the 60's and were taught to cover their heart with their right hand while saying the pledge and during the National Anthem.  Matter of fact they were the ones who taught me and my siblings!!!!! (We knew how to do this before we went off to school.) My grandmother who just turned 89 this month was taught in school to salute the flag during Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem!!  The salute may have been different, but she was taught to salute!  I've read that the salute has changed over the years so I'm not sure if it was different when she was a child or not because she never said and I don't have long distance on my phone to call her and ask her at this moment.  I will see her at Easter and I will ask her then for my own curiosity.  I just remember her reminding us to salute the flag when the 84 Olympics was on TV and we were watching.  We had to stand up and salute whenever they played the National Anthem on TV.  The same thing right before any ball game that was about to be aired on TV.   Maybe it's a Southern or Mississippi thing.  I don't know.  Maybe it was that this person who posted that in the 60's people didn't salute the flag just lived in another part of the country.  I don't know.  All I know was I would have gotten my "butt beat"  if my parents ever saw us not saluting the flag during the National Anthem.  So I have to wonder about why Shawni Davis did not salute the flag.  Was just poor education and he didn't know to salute, was he too riled up (like Shawn White who tried but couldn't stand still, but he still had his hand over his heart) to remember to salute the flag or was just plain old disrespect for our country and flag?  And if so, why is representing us if he doesn't respect us?  Is just because he wanted to go the Olympics?  I just want to know why he didn't salute the flag!  The athletes that get silver and bronze while another National Anthem is playing, I can understand them not saluting because it might seem that they are saluting the country that won gold.  However, I don't know the protocol on that.  I don't know if they should, should not, up them or what.  And I do know that in this country, it's a choice to salute or not to salute the flag, but to me it shows disrespect if you don't.  Especially if you are in any type of USA uniform and he was in a USA speed Skating uniform!!! 

I also noticed that Shawn White was really hyper when he won gold.  :-D  And I think he has every right to be!  He did amazing!!  I just wanted to say that he looked my 11 year old ADHD son when he doesn't take his med.  Telling him to be still with out his med. is like telling a one month old not to cry when he/she is hungry or has a dirty diaper or needs some other type of attention -- it's just developmentally impossible!  LOL  So, the not standing still I can understand.  I'm not saying that Shawn White has ADHD because I honestly do not know, but I do know that he had to have had a lot adrenaline just from winning like he did and when you have adrenaline running through you, it's hard to stand still.  LOL  I know that a lot of people still do it, but some people just can't stand still.  With adrenaline running through you like that, it's like having too much caffeine.   LOL 

Anyway, Congrats to all of our athletes.  Yes, even Shawni Davis.  He did great and he needs to be recognized for it, but I also think he should give an explanation for not saluting the flag.  I think that the President should too, but good luck with that one! 

Anyway,  I'm now just waiting for the figure skating to start back up tomorrow night.  LOL   But on that note.  Is it just me and my hubby or did anyone else wonder how the USA pairs didn't fall at all but were graded harder than anyone else?  They had pairs that fell during their programs and had higher marks than us!  Although I have to hand it to the Chinese pair that won gold!!  They were totally awesome and deserved the scores that they got!  It's the others that I was wondering about!  And Congrats to Evan in the men's singles for those awesome programs he performed!

Ok, Let's pause for a moment so that Mac, who normally aviods anything with a ball like the plegue, does something so out of character for her:

Why is it that when something happens over seas, Americans jump into their checkbooks and give money to people in need in other countries, but they don't have the same consideration for those in need in their own communities?  I've watched at how people have given money to Haiti and other countries who are in need.  And don't get me wrong, I think that's it great!  It just breaks my heart that the organization that ran the only domestic violence shelter in my pairsh (county) had to close down the shelter.  They still have other programs that they are able to run (such as a crisis hotline that used to be 24 hours that is now 9-2 M-F; Woman's Advocate; Child's Advocate; Referrals; Support Group; Spiritual Counciling, if desired; Financial Planning/Budgeting, if desired; Legal Advocate; and Domestic Violence Education.)  However the main reason for the organization, the 24 hour hotline and the emergancy shelter for women and their minor children fleeing domestic violence, has been shut down due to low funds.  The services that are provided are provided free of charge to all victims of domestic violence.  And are ran mostly by volunteers.   However, the shelter costs money to run and there is no money to run the shelter.  The morgage needs to be paid, light bill, telephone bill, water bill, all have to be paid.   This orgnization is a wonderful organization and it breaks my heart to see the emergancy shelter shut down.  Will no one help because we can't show pictures of the abused women and children who have no where else to go?

If you have ever asked the question "Why does she stay?"  Remember one of the answers is "Where would I go?"  Without our shelter, the women and chidren in my parish (county) have no where safer to go.  Where are the genrious people that give to Haiti for these women who cannot speak up for them selves because of fear of what might happen?

As those of you who have read my previous post know, there was a 10 year old girl from our church who drowned on Mother's Day.

I keep thinking, how would that affect Superman? Especially if he was the one to find her body after three hours of being underwater? And what if Jason somehow knew her? Not school mate, but maybe same daycare, something after school. I've never taken piano lessons before, but I think it's a one on one type thing, but maybe something else? Art class after school somewhere else? I'm thinking daycare would be the most likely. Jason would know her and could be friends with her, but not real close y'know? More of a class room setting. Anyway, they both would be 10. How would this affect Jason?

How did Superman find out about the girl needing to be found? I thought maybe a parent from (I'm just going to go with daycare) the daycare center could have taken it upon herself to call and ask for prayers. (Some people -- like myself -- do this.) Maybe this parent and the parents of the child who drowned were at the river together. And after 911 was called, the other mother started to call around for prayers to anyone who she could think of.

So Lois gets the call from the other parent and Clark is there and goes to help look. Although, now that I think about it, it could be Perry calls his best reporter to get on the scene. And it's not until they get there that they even know who it is. Or maybe not until Superman pulls her body from the river that they realize they knew her.

I do want Lois and Clark to be married. What happened to Richard and where Richard is is up to you.

Lois and Anissa just wrote a fic in the Little Secrets Universe for me, so I feel greedy asking them to write this. LOL

But I would also love to see more than one fic written about this. Different authors have different ideas!

I would love see how this affects Superman and Jason both. For some reason I see Lois having to give Superman sleeping pills so that he can sleep after this. Is this because he feels that if he had been just a little quicker, he could have saved her so he's on patrol more? Or is it because he just can't sleep because of what happened? Or is he having nighmares (that it was Jason he pulled out of the river) and trying to avoid sleep and she slips the pills into his drink or something?

I figure that Jason would want to be at the wake/viewing and funeral. (I know my kids did.) So Lois and Clark would check him out of school for the funeral. The wake/viewing is usually the evening before the funeral.

Anyway, there you go, I hope some one can come up with a story for this.

Hello all,

I'm asking for prayers.  Around 6:30 pm on Mother's Day, a 10 year old wake board champion (Little Valarie Anne Hodges), the granddaughter of my pastors, went into the Amite River (right behind her house) to practice her wakeboarding.  While her father had his back turned putting a life jacket on her three year sister, Little Valarie stopped answering her father and when he turned around, she was gone.  They pulled her body out of the river three hours later close to 10 pm.  We burried her today.  While my whole church is affected by this tragic event, please keep the Hodges family in your prayers and please remember the children that Little Valarie touched.  Children at church, school, soccaar team, teens on a wakeboarding team, a family in China that she met while on a Mission Trip.  There were so many people there today.  And there were even some kids that had come as well.  I know I checked out my kids and they came with me, their choice.  I tried my best not to influence their decission.  But my son, who is ten and thinks that girls have cooties and doesn't have any friends who are girls, considered Little Valarie a friend.  My daughter also considered her a friend.  

Side Note:  She was called Little Valarie because she was named after her grandmother, Pastor Valarie Hodges.  Her middle name was her other grandmother's name.  Pastors Leland and Valarie and their son, his wife, her parents, and their brothers and sisters really need our prayers right now.

I'm in need of a lesson.  I think I have stated that I just started to volunteer at my local domestic violence shelter.  Well I was talking with the director today about the website.  She would love a picture in the format of my icon for this post.  One that the pictures change.  She would like it say "The Face Of Domestic Violence"  (of course it needs to be spelled right and I'm not sure if I spelled it right LOL) and the pictures would be of all the races, classes, ages, etc of the people of the world -- both female and male.  Could some one please give me  a lesson on how to do this.  I have Roxio Photo Suite 4.   But if there is a free program out there that will allow me to do this or if you know how to make a gif rotate pics like this, please let me know and teach me how to do this please.  I will also like to learn how to make a banner on a webpage change an example of this would be the Mary Kay webpage, www.marykay.com  This is juts some things that the director and I were talking about today.  I told her that I didn't know how, but I could learn.  I know so many people out there, I'm sure that someone can help me learn how to do this.

Well my head hurts worse than it did at my last update, but I did manage to get 1,449 words written today.  So that's a pluss.  I will catch up sometime soon -- I hope.

So the total so far is 1,765 words.

Ok I didn't get this out yesterday, but I only got 330 words done yesterday. I usually write a lot faster than this. So far on Day 2 Zero words. I'm hoping that insperation will hit me and I'll be able to get going soon. Hopefully, it's just PMS that has me slow in starting this year. (And hopefully only two more days of that! Headaches, cramps, etc....)

I just found out that October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  How did I find this out you ask.  Well, first I volunteer at my kids school.  I'm a comittee chairperson.  We have one car right now, so when hubby is at work, I ride my bikecycle to the school.  Last Thursday, I had a flat tire and called one of my committee members and let her know that I was running late because of a flat tire on my bike.  She offered to pick me up and mentioned something about having to do some other volunteer work for the people who run the local Battered Women's Shelter.  (Now, if she would have told me about this before Christmas last year, I would have said, "We have a Battered Women's Shelter?"  I didn't even know about it until my church held a Christmas Party for them this past Christmas Season.)  Anyway, back to my story, after we hung up I thought, Well, I have nothing else to do until 2:30, I could help her out if they want me to.  So when she picked me up, I told her that I could her out with the errands she had to do for the shelter.  She accepted my help and I jumped in with both feet, and now I'm a volunteer for the shelter.   Yesterday they had a Grand Opening for the new administrative offices for the shelter.  It was Monday night at the monthly volunteer meeting that I found out about October being DV Awareness Month! 

So anyway, this is my new volunteer project!  LOL  I will be training to be an advocate so that I can help these ladies and their children!  I'm so excited.  Yes, I'm still going to volunteer at the school, but I will be adding the DV shelter to my list of things to help out with as well.   I wish we lived in a world where these shelters were not needed, but the sad truth is that they are needed.  Please, check with your own local DV Shelter to see what you can do to help!

We got our power back about an hour and half ago.  We survived Hurricane Gustav ... Gustov... what ever....  we survived.  We have been out of power since lunch time on Monday, Sept. 1, 2008 and about 6 pm on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008!!!!  Just to let everyone know we are fine.  Just trying to get the house cooled down.  I never would have made it 150 years ago here in south Louisiana when they had no power therefore no A/C.  The no power I can deal with it's the no A/C I have a hard time with!  And to think that they wore a whole lot more clothes than we do now!  Man they had some tough people to survive in this heat with more clothes on and no way to cool down!!!!

This is a real life post.  I'm in the direct path of  Hurricane Gustov.  However, I'm far enough inland to where I don't have to worry about an evacution order.  At least not at this time.  With Hurricane Katrina, we had people coming to my city to evac.  So....  But anyway, if you don't hear from me in a few days, I've lost power and/or can't get a connection.  The only thing that I'm even mildly worried about is we have an old Oak tree in our yard.  A few months ago, it was struck by lightening and it's split down to the roots.  My hubby did get out there and cut all of the limbs that was facing in the direction of the house so it would fall toward the street if it fell.  I made the comment earilier that we should fine and the tree should fall on the house unless one half goes towards the street and the other half falls backward onto the house.  LOL  Now that I said it, I doubt it will happen.  LOL  But it has put that thought there.  We will get power outages and a lot of wind and rain, but other than that, we will be fine.  We might get drainage backup.  Our street floods in heavy rain, but so far just rain water has never gotten into the house.  This house has only flooded twice and that was when the river got up past 41.  At this time it's at 11 and we won't get that much rain.  LOL  But we do have sandbags because of the new drainage problem that we descovered when we got a lot rain a couple of weeks ago.  About a year or so ago, some of neighbors put in pipes and covered up the big cannal behind their house, (it's still open behind my house), and a couple weeks ago, instead of just deep water at the stop sign at the end of the street, my front yard ditch was over flowing and it was mid calf deep in the street.  (I'm 5 feet even and it was mid calf on me.)  So we got sandbags to be on the safe side.  I will update everyone as soon as I can.  They expect the Hurricane to hit Monday about lunch time or so.  And that's my birthday.  What a birthday it will be huh?

On the bright side, we might go to my mom's house about five miles away and stay with her through the storm.  Why go only five miles away?  She has cable internet and my lap top just occosaionally gets a wireless signal.  LOL

Hello all,

I'm in need of some help.  This year I'm helping with the Children's Church at church.  They are staring a new program this year and it's about a two year program.  It is a Studio (Acting) theme.  They are going to have several characters come and go through out the lesson, so that the adults don't miss all of the sermon.  Ok so we have two characters that are actresses and we will alternate Sundays.  I start the first Sunday.  But the thing is we have to name our characters.  I'm wanting to portray an airhead, self-centered, snobbish actress.  But I'm having trouble coming up with a name for her.  I thought that I would just name her like I do all my other characters.  I make up the personality and then I choose a name that means that personality.  However, I can't find a name that has the meaning of my character.  So... this is where the call for help comes in.  

The first name that came to mind was Buffy.  I know that Buffy wasn't really an airhead, and neither was she snobbish or self-centered (at least not in the show Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  But her name does sound like that kind of personality.  (Which is why Joss Wheadon picked it I think.)  But anyway, the people at the meeting for Children's Church tonight liked the name.  I told them I wasn't 100% sold on the name yet, that I would go home and try to come up with something else.

The Children's pastor suggested Buffy Buffont when I told him the name Buffy.

I was talking with a friend tonight and she suggested Dixie.  However when I hear the name Dixie, I think of Designing Women and think of the woman that owned the company that Designing Women was about.    ( I have no last name to go with Dixie, but I would need something that starts with D -- per request of Chilren's Pastor)


In my search for a name meaning airhead, I put in the word valley to see what names might mean valley.  (Valley short for Valley Girl because when I put in Valley Girl I got ziltch.)  And I got these neames:  Deena and Denna.   So I was thinking Deena Danes; Denna Downs

I'm still not sold on any of these names.  

Would my friend's list please help me out and send me some names that just scream "AIRHEAD" to you?  Or tell me if you like any of these names.

 With Arms Wide Open is a Buffy/Angel fanfic.  If I post it here, would you read it?  I want to know before I take time the time and effort to post it.  I get frustrated with LJ while reading fics because it shows the most recent posts first and that means that the chapters are backward and if you have to slit up the chapters the ending is before the beginning.  I have 7 chapters ready to post right now.  If I get just one person who would read it, I will post.  Just respond to this post and let me know.

I just think that most of my friends on LJ are Superman fans and I have no idea if any are Buffy/Angel fans.  And when I say Buffy/Angel I mean a Buffy with Angel romantically happy ending.

I recieved threee new betas and Chapter 6 of With Arms Wide Open A Buffy/Angel Saga should be up sometime this week.  However, I just recieved word from Tani, who had been writing the NC-17 scenes for me.  She has had a family emergancy and does not have the time to write the NC-17 scenes for me.  Is there anyone out there would be willing to do this for me?  I cannot write smut, no matter how hard I try.

 I know that most of my friends list is from the Superman Returns fandom, but maybe some one is also a fan of Buffy/Angel and can help me out.

They have had Chapter 6 since I posted Chapter 5 and I have not heard a word from them. (Well I have one and I will be keeping this beta.) And then to top it off when I sent out an email last night, one of them had a auto-responce saying that she was on vacation until the 14th of this month. No word to me that she was gpoing out of town. Granted she doesn't need my permission, but when I have been waiting on her to beta a chapter for me for 3 months it would be nice for her to email me and let me know that she is going on vacation and won't have computer access for a couple of weeks. I feel that I have been very understanding and patient with my betas. I have 216 pages, 86,138 wordds typed up and more in a notebook to type up. I have all of Book One, Most of Book 2 and Half of Book 3 typed up. The only reason only 5 chapters are posted is because my betas have only sent those chapters back to me.

What I need in a beta, some one who is good in English gammar, someone who can point out typos (Where periods should be commas, simple spelling mistakes that spell check won't catch: ex. to instead of two or too; or passed instead past etc.). Someone who can help me make sure that the characters are in character given the new universe that I have established. Someone who can help me come up with ideas for the story that I am having trouble with (Re-write of Season 3 mainly). And some one who can get a chapter back to me so that I can post either every week or every two weeks.

Talk about getting it done at the 11th hour!!! Man! I finally finished my 12 Days of Clois Around the World -- at 2 my time this morning. It's at the beta's now and if I don't have it back by 11pm U.S. Central Time, I will post it with the ending being unbetaed. As of right now it is 13,057 words; that's not including any quotes that I used or Author Notes.

Why, oh why, didn't I check the school calendar before accepting Friday, April 13 as my date for the 12 days of Clois challenge? The kids are out of school, fighting and yelling. How can I write like this? Why didn't I get this done before now?! Ok folks, the story may not have as much historical information that I wanted it have thanks to my writers block and my kids not allowing me write very much. But I will do my best to have it finished and posted by Friday night.

I can't promise that this will be updated often, but hey it's something for right now.

For Buffy/Angel fans, With Arms Wide Open Chapter 4 is up at the website and at fanfiction.net.  However, the formating on the website is messed up and the graphic that I came up with for Chapter 4 is awful!!!  If someone wants to make me a new Chapter 4 graphic, please feel free and if I post it, I'll give you credit!   Chapter 5 will have two versions.  Yep that's right, there will be a NC-17 scene in Chapter 5 that Tani wrote.  I tried to wrtie it, and it didn't work out, but Tani did take what I had and used some of it.  Anyway, Chapter 5 is at the betas and I haven't heard back from any of them yet.  Hoefully, I will get it back soon.  Although I still have to format Chapter 4 for the message boards.

For Superman fans.  I have started on the 12 Days of Clois fic and I'm at 3,194 words not counting the disclaimers and A/N.  It's a movieverse future fic.  Jason is in High School and that's all I'm telling right now.  ;-)  I am used to working with more than one beta and I only have one beta right now.  If anyone else out there would like to help me out, please let me know!  Here is the pic of the destination :
